Properties of the One-Well Problem in Nonlinear Elastostatics
Abstract: We discuss the concept of relaxation in nonlinear elasticity and compute the quasiconvex envelope of the squared distance function to SO(2). Moreover, an example of an unbounded minimizer with zero boundary conditions is provided, which will also illustrate why minimizers are generally not unique. Finally, if time permits, we discuss properties of a minimizer for a perturbed problem. The presentation is mainly based on an article by the authors Dolzmann, Kristensen, Zhang from the year 2012.
